502 — Ahmad ibn Manīʿ narrated to us: ʿAbbād ibn al-ʿAwwām narrated to us: Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind informed us, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Every lie is inevitably recorded as a lie, except lying in three cases: lying in war is a stratagem; a man’s lying between two men in order to reconcile them; and a man’s lying to his wife.” Dāwūd said, “He makes promises to her.”
