500 — Ahmad ibn Jamīl narrated to us: Abd Allah ibn al-Mubārak informed us: Yūnus informed us, from al-Zuhrī, who said: Humayd ibn Abd al-Rahmān ibn Awf informed us that his mother—Umm Kulthūm bint Uqba ibn Abī Muayt—had informed him that she heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, “The one who brings about reconciliation between people, saying good things and passing on good words, is not a liar.”

Ibn Shihāb said, “I have heard no concession granted for anything that people call a lie except in three situations: war; reconciliation between people; and what a man says to his wife and what a woman says to her husband.”
