496 — Abd al-Rahmān ibn Sālih narrated to me: Abū Bakr ibn Ayyāsh narrated to us, saying: Umar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah be pleased with him—said, “There is no good in speech that falls short of truthfulness. Whoever lies falls into wickedness, and whoever falls into wickedness is ruined. Successful indeed is the one safeguarded from three things: greed, caprice, and anger.”
