Al-Samt wa-Adab al-LisanIbn Abi al-Dunya

494 — Ahmad ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us: Mubashshir al-Halabī narrated to us: Ja‘far ibn Burqān narrated to me: Abū Abd Allah al-Jurashī narrated to me: A man from Muāwiya’s guard narrated to us, saying: “The tyrant of the Romans sent word to Muāwiya, offering to pay him the jizya. The Roman said to him, ‘Muāwiya, do not try to outwit me, for you will find no stratagem that does not involve a lie.’”
