Al-Samt wa-Adab al-LisanIbn Abi al-Dunya

476 — ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd narrated to us: Nasr ibn Tarīf al-Bāhilī informed us: Ibrāhīm ibn Maysara narrated to us, from ʿUbayd ibn Saʿd, from ʿĀʾisha—may Allah be pleased with her—who said, “No character trait was more abhorrent to the Companions of the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—than lying. The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—would become aware that one of his Companions had lied, and the lie would not leave his heart until he knew that the man had made fresh repentance to Allah for it.”
