Alī ibn al-Jaʿd narrated to us: Shuʿba informed us, from Yazīd ibn Khumayr, who said: I heard Sulaym ibn ʿĀmir narrate from Awsat ibn Ismāʿīl ibn Awsat, who heard Abū Bakr al-Siddīq—may Allah be pleased with him—say, one year after the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—had passed away: “The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—stood where I am standing now, one year ago.” Abū Bakr then wept and said: “Beware of lying, for it accompanies wickedness, and both are in the Fire.”
