459 — And Ahmad ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Samad ibn ʿAbd al-Wārith narrated to me: ʿAbd Rabbih al-Qassāb narrated to us. He said: “I arranged with Muhammad ibn Sīrīn—may Allah have mercy on him—to buy sacrificial animals for him, but I became busy and forgot my promise to him. Later, I remembered and went to him close to midday, only to find Muhammad still waiting for me. I greeted him, and he raised his head and said, ‘Indeed, a lesser fault than this might be excused in your case.’ I replied, ‘I was occupied. My companions even rebuked me for coming to you, saying, “He must have left; he would not have remained seated until now.”’ He said, ‘Even if you had not come until sunset, I would not have risen from this place except to pray or attend to an unavoidable need.’”
