455 — Sulaymān ibn Mansūr Abū Shaykh al-Khuzāī narrated to me, from Yahyā ibn Saīd al-Umawī, who said: Ibn Kharrabūdh recited to me these verses by al-Fadl ibn Abbās ibn Utbah ibn Abī Lahab:
“We are a people whose very nature is
truthful speech, and our promise is binding.
They wear modesty; if you looked at them, you would think
that they were ill, though no illness has touched them.
The worst fellowship is that of a devourer:
he taints fellowship—his friendship is a sham.
My cousin claimed that my forbearance harmed me,
yet never before me has forbearance harmed those who possess it.”
