452 — Umar ibn Bukayr al-Nahwī narrated to us: Abū Abd al-Rahmān al-Tā'ī informed us: Abū Burda ibn Abd Allah ibn Abī Burda informed us, saying: People used to say that Ribī ibn Hirāsh (may Allah be pleased with him) had never told a single lie. His two sons then returned from Khurāsān on leave. The headman went to al-Hajjāj and said, “O governor, people claim that Ribī ibn Hirāsh has never lied, yet his two sons have returned from Khurāsān, and both are rebels.” Al-Hajjāj said, “Bring him to me.” When he arrived, he said, “Old man!” Ribī replied, “What do you want?” He asked, “What have your two sons done?” Ribī replied, “Allah is the One whose help is sought. I left them at home.” He said, “Certainly, by Allah, I will not distress you on their account. They are yours to keep.”
