Alī ibn al-Jaʿd narrated to me: Shuʿba informed us, from Yazīd ibn Khumayr, who said: I heard Sulaym ibn Āmir narrate from Awsat ibn Ismāʿīl ibn Awsat, who heard Abū Bakr al-Siddīq—may Allah be pleased with him—a year after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had passed away. He said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood last year where I am standing now.” Abū Bakr then wept and said: “Hold fast to truthfulness, for it is accompanied by righteousness, and both are in Paradise. Beware of lying, for it is accompanied by wickedness, and both are in the Fire.”
