438 — Abū Abd al-Rahmān Muhammad ibn Imrān ibn Abī Laylā narrated to us: Īsā ibn Yūnus narrated to us, from al-Awzāī, from Hassān ibn Atiyya, who said:
Shaddād ibn Aws was on a journey. When he stopped at a place, he said to his servant, “Bring us the food spread so that we may amuse ourselves with it.” I expressed my disapproval to him, so he said, “Ever since I embraced Islam, I have never uttered a word without muzzling and bridling it—apart from this remark of mine. So do not hold it against me.”
