Al-Samt wa-Adab al-LisanIbn Abi al-Dunya

427 — Muhammad ibn Amr Abu Bakr al-Bāhilī narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Abī Adī narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishāq, from Sulaymān ibn Suhaym, from his mother, the daughter of Abu al-Hakam al-Ghifāriyya—may Allah be pleased with her—who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say:

“A man may draw so near to Paradise that nothing remains between him and it but a spear’s length; then he utters a word and moves farther away from it than Sana'a.”
