420 — Muhammad ibn Abbād ibn Mūsā al-Uklī narrated to me: Yahyā ibn Sulaym narrated to us, from Umayya ibn Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Uthmān, who said: We were with Umar ibn Abd al-Azīz—may Allah have mercy on him—when one man said to another, “It is beneath your armpit.” Umar—may Allah have mercy on him—said, “What would it cost any of you to express himself in the finest words he can?” They asked, “What do you mean?” He replied, “Had he said, ‘It is beneath your hand,’ that would have been more elegant.”
