400 – Ali ibn Yaqub al-Qaysī related to me, saying: “I heard an elder recite these two verses to al-Yazīdī:
Jesting wears away one’s countenance; indeed, it is
an utterance that harms and speech that does not lead aright.
So leave jesting to the fool, for it may stir
the dust-cloud of an enmity that will never subside.”
