394 – Abū Kurayb narrated to us: Zakariyyā ibn ʿAdī narrated to us, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak, from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Abī Rawwād, who said: ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, may Allah have mercy on him, said: “Fear Allah, and do not jest with me, for jesting breeds rancor and leads to shameful conduct. Let the Quran be the subject of your conversations and gatherings. If you find that burdensome, then relate some wholesome account about men.”
