380 — Al-Salt ibn Masūd al-Jahdarī narrated to us: Ali ibn Mujāhid al-Kābulī narrated to us: al-Jad informed us, from Mazyad ibn Hilāl al-Dubaī, from Abū Burda, from Abū Mūsā (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: “If you can refrain from cursing anything, then do so. When a curse issues from the one who utters it, if its target deserves it, it strikes that target. If the target does not deserve it, but the one who uttered it does, it returns upon him. If there is still no one who deserves it, it strikes a Jew, a Christian, or a Magian. If you can refrain from ever cursing anything, then do so.”
