Al-Samt wa-Adab al-LisanIbn Abi al-Dunya

293 — Muhammad ibn Idrīs narrated to me: Abū al-Nadr al-Dimashqī narrated to us: Ismāīl ibn Ayyāsh narrated to us, from Abū Shayba Yahyā ibn Yazīd al-Rahāwī, from Zayd ibn Abī Unaysa, from Atā ibn Abī Rabāh, who was asked about repenting of slander. He replied: “Go to the person concerned and say, ‘I lied in what I said to you; I wronged you and acted badly. If you choose to exact your right, you may; and if you wish, you may forgive me.’”
