268 — Ibrāhīm Abū Ishāq narrated to us: Zayd ibn ʿAwf narrated to me: Hammād ibn Salama narrated to us, from Humayd, who related: “A man bargained for a slave. The slave’s owner said, ‘I disclaim all liability to you for his malicious gossip.’ The man replied, ‘Yes, you are absolved of it,’ and bought him. The slave then began telling his new master, ‘Your wife is unfaithful and does this and that, and she wants to kill you.’ He would tell the woman, ‘Your husband intends to ⦗160⦘ take another wife and a concubine besides you. If you want me to turn his affection back toward you so that he neither takes another wife nor a concubine, take a razor and shave a hair from his throat while he is asleep.’ He then told the husband, ‘She intends to kill you while you are asleep.’ The husband went and pretended to be asleep for her. She approached with a razor to shave a hair from his throat, but he seized her hand and killed her. Her family then came, mustered support against him, and killed him.”
