245 — Khalaf ibn Hishām narrated to us: Abū Shihāb narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Wāʾil, who reported that ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Why, when you see a fool tearing people’s honor to shreds, do you not speak out against him?” They replied, “We fear his tongue.” He said, “That makes it more likely that you will not be among those who bear witness.”
