242 — Yaʿqūb ibn ʿUbayd narrated to me: Hishām ibn ʿAmmār narrated to us: Abū Muhabbar al-Himsī narrated to us, from an elderly man of Basra, from Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If a man is spoken ill of while you are in an assembly, then defend him, rebuke the people, or rise and leave them.” He then recited this verse: “Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would detest it.” [al-Hujurāt 49:12]
