216 – Abū Khaythama narrated to us: Abd al-Samad ibn Abd al-Wārith narrated to us: My father narrated to me. He said: Wāsil, the client of Abū Uyayna, also narrated to me, saying: Khālid ibn Urfuta narrated to me, from Talha ibn Nāfi, from Jābir ibn Abd Allah—may Allah be pleased with them both—who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—when a foul odor arose around us. The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, “Do you know what this odor is? It is the odor of those who backbite the believers.”
