209 – Ahmad ibn Manīʿ narrated to us: Abū Nasr al-Tammār narrated to us: Hammād ibn Salama narrated to us, from ʿAbbās al-Jurayrī, from Sinān ibn Salama, who said: I was with my father in the presence of Ibn ʿUmar, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, when he was asked about backbiting. Ibn ʿUmar, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, replied: “Backbiting is to say about someone what is true of him, whereas slander is to say about him what is not true of him.”
