170 — Alī ibn al-Jad narrated to us: al-Rabī ibn Sabīh informed us, from Yazīd al-Raqāshī ⦗122⦘, from Anas ibn Mālik—may Allah be pleased with him—who said:
The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—ordered the people to fast for a day and said, “No one is to break his fast until I give him permission.” The people fasted, and when evening came, one man after another would come and say, “O Messenger of Allah, I have spent the day fasting, so grant me permission to break my fast.” He would grant each one permission, until a man came and said, “O Messenger of Allah, two young women from among your people have spent the day fasting, but they are too shy to come to you. Grant them permission to break their fast.”
He turned away from the man. The man repeated his request, but he again turned away from him. When the man asked once more, the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, “How can anyone be said to have fasted who spent this day eating people’s flesh? Go and instruct them that, if they are fasting, they must induce vomiting.”
The man returned to them and told them. They induced vomiting, and each of them vomited up a blood clot. He returned to the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and informed him. He said, “By Him in whose hand is Muhammad’s soul, had those two clots remained in their stomachs, the Fire would have consumed both women.”
