167 — Ibrāhīm ibn Dīnār narrated to us: Musab ibn Sallām narrated to us, from Hamza ibn Habīb al-Zayyāt, from Abū Ishāq, from al-Barā—may Allah be pleased with him—who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—delivered a sermon to us loudly enough for even the young unmarried women in their homes to hear. He said, “O you who profess faith with your tongues while faith has not entered your hearts! Do not backbite the Muslims or seek out their private faults. Whoever seeks out his brother’s faults, Allah will seek out his faults; and whoever has his faults sought out by Allah, He will disgrace him even within his own home.”
