136 – And Abd al-Rahmān ibn Sālih narrated to me: Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, on the authority of Hajjāj ibn Dīnār, the poet, on the authority of Abū Ghālib, on the authority of Abū Umāma—may Allah be pleased with him—who reported that the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—said: “No people ever went astray—after having followed guidance—without being given to disputation.” Then he recited: “They cite him to you only to argue. Rather, they are a contentious people.” [al-Zukhruf: 58]
