116 — Khalaf ibn Hishām narrated to us: Abū Shihāb narrated to us, from Amr ibn Qays: “A man passed by Luqmān while people were gathered around him and asked, ‘Were you not a slave of such-and-such a clan?’ He replied, ‘Indeed, I was.’ He asked, ‘The one who used to tend flocks near such-and-such a mountain?’ He replied, ‘Indeed.’ The man asked, ‘What brought you to the standing in which I now see you?’ He replied, ‘Truthfulness in speech and prolonged silence about what does not concern me.’”
