111 — ‘Alī ibn al-Ja‘d also narrated to us: Abū Ma‘shar informed me, from Muhammad ibn Ka‘b, who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, “Indeed, the first person to enter through this door will be a man from among the people of Paradise.” Then ‘Abd Allāh ibn Salām entered. Some of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—went over to him, informed him of the Prophet’s words, and said, “Tell us which of your deeds you have the greatest confidence in and upon which you rest your hopes.” He replied, “I am indeed weak, but what gives me the greatest hope is keeping my heart free of ill will and refraining from what does not concern me.”
