98 – Ibrahim ibn ʿAbd al-Malik narrated to me; Hisham ibn ʿAmmar narrated to us; Sadaqah ibn Khalid narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Yazid ibn Jabir narrated to us; Sulaym ibn ʿAmir told me: I heard ʿAbd Allah ibn Qurt al-Azdi—who was one of the Prophet’s Companions—speaking from the pulpit on a day of Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr. Noticing the many-colored garments the people were wearing, he declared:
“What an abundant blessing—how copiously it has been poured out! What a noble honor—how plainly it appears! Yet nothing has ever pulled a community farther from the straight road than a blessing they were unable to repel. A blessing remains secure only when the recipient shows gratitude to the Benefactor for His favors.”
٩٨ - حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ، ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، ثنا صَدَقَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي سُلَيْمُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ، سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قُرْطٍ الْأَزْدِيَّ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فِي يَوْمِ أَضْحًى أَوْ فِطْرٍ وَرَأَى عَلَى النَّاسِ أَلْوَانَ الثِّيَابِ، فَقَالَ: «يَا لَهَا مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ مَا أَسْبَغَهَا، يَا لَهَا مِنْ كَرَامَةٍ مَا أَظْهَرَهَا، وَأَنَّهُ مَا زَالَ عَنْ جَادَّةِ قَوْمٍ شَيْءٌ أَشَدُّ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ رَدَّهَا، وَإِنَّمَا تَثْبُتُ النِّعْمَةُ لِشُكْرِ الْمُنْعَمِ عَلَيْهِ لِلنِّعَمِ»
