87 – Abū Bakr al-Ṣayrafī narrated to us; he said: ʿAbāyah Abū Ghassān said:
“I was stricken with a fever in Nishapur until it overwhelmed me, so I offered this supplication:
‘My Lord, whenever You bestow a blessing upon me my gratitude is scant, and whenever You test me with an affliction my patience is scant. So, O You before whose favors my thanks have been few yet You never abandoned me; O You before whose trials my endurance has been little yet You never punished me; O You who saw me in acts of disobedience yet never disgraced me—remove my hardship.’
He said, and the fever left me.”
