77 – Muhammad ibn al-Husayn narrated to us; Yazid ibn Harun reported; al-Masʿudi transmitted; from ʿAwn ibn ʿAbd Allah, who said:
One of the jurists remarked, “I have contemplated my own situation and I have found that nothing is wholly good—free of any attendant evil—except ʿāfiyah (well-being) and shukr (gratitude). Many a person remains grateful while still under trial, and many a person enjoys well-being yet fails to show gratitude. Therefore, when you ask Allah, ask Him for both of them together.”
