Al-ShukrIbn Abi al-Dunya

56 – Muhammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Shaqīq narrated to us; Ibrāhīm ibn al-Ashʿath related; I heard Fudayl ibn ʿIyād say: “It was commonly said: Whoever recognizes Allah’s favor in his heart and praises Him with his tongue has not completed his gratitude until he sees that favor increase, for Allah, exalted is He, says: ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you’ (Ibrāhīm 14:7).” He also said: “I heard him—meaning Fudayl ibn ʿIyād—say: It was said as well: Part of showing gratitude for a blessing is to speak about it.”
