55 – ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd and Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, saying: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah narrated, from Muḥammad ibn Sūqah, who said:
“I was walking with ʿAwn ibn ʿAbd Allāh in Kūfa and we passed by the palace of al-Ḥajjāj. I said, ‘If only you had seen what befell us here in the days of al-Ḥajjāj!’ He replied, ‘You pass by it as though you had never called upon Him when hardship struck you. Go back, praise Allah and thank Him. Have you not heard the words of Allah, exalted is He: “…he passes on as though he had never called on Us for a harm that had touched him” (Yūnus 10:12)?’”
