5 – Ismaʿil ibn Ibrahim ibn Bassam narrated to us; Ṣalih al-Murri related to me, from Abu ʿImran al-Jawni, from Abu al-Jild, who said: I came across the supplication of David (peace be upon him) in which he said, “My Lord, how can I thank You when I can only give thanks by means of the very grace You bestow?” Then revelation came to him: “O David, do you not know that every favor you enjoy is from Me?” He replied, “Indeed, my Lord.” He said, “Then I am satisfied with that gratitude from you.”
