35 – Muḥammad ibn Bashīr al-Kindī narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Majīd al-Makkī reported, from his father, from Ṣadaqah ibn Yasār, who said: “While David—peace be upon him—was in his prayer niche, a worm crawled past him. He looked at it, contemplated the way it had been fashioned, marvelled at it, and said, ‘Of what concern is this creature to Allah?’ Thereupon Allah caused the worm to speak, and it said, ‘O David, are you impressed with yourself? By the One in whose hand is my soul, I am more grateful for the favor Allah has bestowed on me than you are for the favor He has bestowed on you.’”
