Al-ShukrIbn Abi al-Dunya

26 – ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar narrated to us; ʿAwn ibn Musa transmitted; I heard Bakr ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Muzani say: “A trial descends upon a servant, so he calls upon his Lord and it is turned away from him. Then Satan comes and undermines his gratitude, whispering, ‘That affair would have been easier than you think.’ The servant responds, ‘On the contrary, the matter was far more severe than I can conceive, yet Allah warded it off from me.’”
