22 – ‘Ubayd Allah ibn ‘Umar al-Jushami narrated to us; Hammad ibn Zayd transmitted; Layth narrated, from Abu Burdah, who said:

“I came to Medina and met ‘Abd Allah ibn Salam. He said to me, ‘Will you not enter a house the Messenger of Allah ﷺ once entered, so that we may offer you sawiq (roasted barley meal) and dates?’

He then said, ‘When Allah—Mighty and Majestic—gathers mankind tomorrow, He will remind them of the favors He bestowed upon them. The servant will ask, “By what sign?” He will reply, “Do you not remember that you were in such-and-such distress, you called upon Me, and I removed it from you? And that you were on such-and-such a journey, you sought My company, and I accompanied you?”’

Abu Burdah added: ‘He will go on reminding him until He says, “And do you not recall that you proposed to So-and-so, the daughter of So-and-so, and another suitor proposed alongside you, but I married her to you and turned the others away?”’”
