Al-ShukrIbn Abi al-Dunya

174 – Al-Ḥasan ibn Yaḥyā ibn Kathīr al-ʿAnbarī narrated to us; Khuzaimah, Abū Muḥammad, narrated to us; he said:

Wahb ibn Munabbih once passed by a man stricken with every affliction: he was blind, leprous, crippled, unclothed, and mottled with vitiligo, yet he kept repeating, “All praise belongs to Allah for His blessing.” A man accompanying Wahb exclaimed, “What blessing can possibly remain with you that you are praising Allah for it?”

The afflicted man replied, “Cast your eyes over the people of this town and see how many they are. First and foremost, I praise Allah that among all of them there is no one who knows Him better than I do.”
