107 – Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Jarawī related to me; Muʿādh ibn Khālid narrated, reporting from a man of Balkh called Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, who said:
“Whoever says, ‘al-ḥamdu lillāhi rabb al-ʿālamīn ʿalā kulli niʿmatin kānat aw hiya kāʾinah, khāṣṣatan aw ʿāmmatan’ (all praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds, for every blessing that has occurred or will yet occur, whether private or public), has indeed praised Allah for every blessing—past or future, specific or general. And whoever says, ‘innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn ʿalā kulli muṣībatin kānat aw hiya kāʾinah, khāṣṣatan aw ʿāmmatan’ (surely we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return, for every calamity that has occurred or will yet occur, whether private or public), has uttered the words of return for every calamity.”
