105 – ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shabīb al-Madani narrated to us; Yaʿqūb ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; Sulaymān ibn Sālim, the client of the family of Jahsh, narrated to me; from Saʿd ibn Isḥāq ibn Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah; from his father; from his grandfather, who said:

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent out a detachment from the Anṣār and said, ‘If Allah keeps them safe and grants them spoils, then I owe Him gratitude for that.’ It was not long before they returned unharmed and with booty. Some of his Companions said, ‘We heard you say, “If Allah keeps them safe and grants them spoils, then I owe gratitude for that.”’ He replied, ‘Indeed I have done so; I said: Allahumma laka al-ḥamdu shukran, wa laka al-mannu faḍlan (O Allah, to You belongs all praise as thanks, and to You belongs all favor as grace).’”
