863 — Al-Firyābī narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn al-Alā, Abū Kurayb, narrated to us, saying: Abū Bakr ibn Ayyāsh narrated to us, saying: Āsim narrated to us, from Zirr, from Abd Allah, who said:
“When a servant dies, Allah—majestic is His glory—sends angels to him, and they take his soul into his shrouds. Once he is placed in his grave, Allah—majestic is His glory—sends two angels to him, who speak to him sternly. They ask, ‘Who is your Lord?’ He replies, ‘My Lord is Allah.’ They ask, ‘What is your religion?’ He replies, ‘My religion is Islam.’ They ask, ‘Who is your Prophet?’ He replies, ‘Muhammad.’ They say, ‘You have spoken the truth; that is how you were. Spread bedding for him from Paradise, clothe him in garments from it, and show him his place therein.’
“As for the disbeliever, he is struck with a blow that causes his grave to blaze with fire. His grave is constricted around him until his ribs interlace—or touch one another—and serpents from among the serpents of the grave are set upon him ⦗1294⦘, with necks like those of camels. Whenever he comes out, he is struck with a club of fire or iron.”
