845 — Al-Firyābī narrated to us, saying: Qutayba ibn Saīd narrated to us, saying: Ismāīl ibn Jafar ⦗1278⦘ narrated to us, from Humayd ibn Abī Humayd al-Tawīl—Qutayba said, “He was Humayd ibn Tarkhān”—from Anas ibn Mālik, who reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, entered one of the gardens belonging to Banū al-Najjār and heard a sound coming from a grave. He asked, “When was the occupant of this grave buried?” They replied, “During the pre-Islamic period of ignorance.” He was pleased by this and said, “Were it not that you might cease burying one another, I would pray to Allah to let you hear the punishment of the grave.”
