843 – Al-Firyābī narrated to us: ‘Uthmān ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us: Jarīr narrated to us, from Mansūr, from Abū Wā’il, from Masrūq, from ‘Ā’ishah—may Allah Most High have mercy on her—who said: An old woman—or two old women—from among the elderly Jewish women of Medina came to me. They said, “The inhabitants of the graves are punished in their graves.” I did not believe them, and they left. The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—then came in, and I said to him, “O Messenger of Allah, two elderly Jewish women of Medina came to me and claimed that the inhabitants of the graves are punished in their graves.” He replied, “They spoke the truth. They are subjected to a punishment that all animals can hear.” She said: After that, I never saw him perform a prayer without seeking refuge from the punishment of the grave.
