840 – Al-Firyābī narrated to us: Ahmad ibn ‘Īsā al-Misrī narrated to us: ‘Abd Allāh ibn Wahb narrated to us: ‘Amr ibn al-Hārith informed us that Darrāj Abū al-Samh narrated to him, from Ibn Hujayrah, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said: “Do you know concerning what this verse was revealed: ‘Then indeed he will have a life of hardship’ [Tā Hā: 124]? Do you know what that hardship is?” They replied, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said: “It is the punishment of the disbeliever in his grave. By Him in whose hand is my soul, ninety-nine tannīns—enormous serpents—will indeed be set upon him. Do you know what a tannīn is? Ninety-nine snakes, each snake having seven heads. They blow into his body, sting him, and claw at him until ⦗1274⦘ the Day of Resurrection.”
