825 — Abū Muhammad ibn Sāid narrated to us, saying: Al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan al-Marwazī narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Abī Adī informed us, saying: Husayn al-Muallim narrated to us, from Abd Allah ibn Buraydah, who said: It was related that Abū Sabrah ibn Salamah heard Ibn Ziyād asking about the Basin. He said, “I do not consider it to be true,” even after he had questioned Abū Barzah al-Aslamī, al-Barā ibn Āzib, and Āidh ibn Amr al-Muzanī. He said, “I cannot believe it.”

Abū Sabrah said, “Shall I not relate to you an account concerning this that will settle the matter conclusively? Your father sent me to Muāwiyah concerning some money, and I met Abd Allah ibn Amr. Abd Allah ibn Amr related to me, from his own lips, what he had heard from the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—and I wrote it down with my own hand, neither adding nor omitting a single letter. He told me that the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said in a lengthy hadith:

“Your appointed meeting place is my Basin. Its width is equal to its length, and it extends as far as the distance between Aylah and Mecca—a month’s journey. In it are pitchers like the stars. Its water is whiter than silver. Whoever comes to it and drinks from it will never thirst thereafter.” ⦗1258⦘

Ibn Ziyād then said, “No report about the Basin has ever been related to me that is better established than this. I bear witness that the Basin is real.” He then took the document that Abū Sabrah had brought.
