823 — Abū Bakr Muhammad ibn al-Layth al-Jawharī narrated to us, saying: Abū Hishām al-Rifāʿī narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Amr ibn Murrah, from Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd, from Thawbān, who said: The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said, “You will come to the Basin, while I keep people away from it with my staff.” We asked, “O Messenger of Allah, how broad is it?” He replied, “Like the distance from where I stand to Amman.” We asked, “How many vessels does it have?” He replied, “As many as the stars. It contains ⦗1256⦘ two channels from Paradise, one of gold and the other of silver. Whoever takes a single drink from it will never thirst again.” Thawbān said, “So pray to Allah—glorious is His Majesty—to make you among those who come to it.”
