809 — Abū Bakr Jafar ibn Muhammad al-Firyābī narrated to us, saying: Qutayba ibn Saīd narrated to us, saying: al-Layth ibn Sad narrated to us, from Khālid ibn Yazīd, from Saīd ibn Abī Hilāl, from Anas ibn Mālik, who related that the prophets—peace and blessings be upon them—were mentioned in the presence of the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—and he said:
“By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, I shall indeed be the leader of all people on the Day of Resurrection—and this is no boast. The Banner of Praise shall be in my hand, and Adam—peace be upon him—and all others shall be beneath it—and this is no boast.”
He continued:
“On that day, Allah—Glorious and Exalted is He—will call Adam, and Adam will answer, ‘At Your service, my Lord, ever ready to obey You.’ He will say, ‘Bring forth from among your descendants those destined for the Fire.’ Adam will ask, ‘Who are those destined for the Fire?’ He will say, ‘Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand.’ Adam will then bring forth a multitude whose number none knows but Allah—Glorious and Exalted is He.
“They will come to Adam—peace be upon him—and say, ‘You are Adam. Allah honored you, created you with His Hand, breathed into you of His spirit, admitted you into His Paradise, and commanded the angels to prostrate before you. Intercede for your descendants so that they are not burned in the Fire today.’ He will reply, ‘That is not for me today, but I shall direct you. Go to a servant whom Allah took as an intimate friend, and I shall accompany you.’
“They will come to Abraham—peace be upon him—and say, ‘O Abraham, you are a servant whom Allah took as an intimate friend. Intercede for Adam’s descendants so that they are not burned in the Fire today.’ He will reply, ‘That is not for me, but I shall direct you. Go to a servant whom Allah—Glorious and Exalted is He—chose for His Speech and His messages and upon whom He bestowed love from Himself: Moses. I shall accompany you.’

Go to Allah’s Spirit and His Word: Jesus, son of Mary.’
“They will come to Jesus, son of Mary—peace be upon him—and say, ‘O Jesus, you are Allah’s Spirit and His Word. Intercede for Adam’s descendants so that they are not burned in the Fire today.’ He will reply, ‘That is not for me today. Go to a servant whom Allah—Glorious and Exalted is He—made a mercy to the worlds: Ahmad—peace and blessings be upon him. I shall accompany you.’
“They will come to me and say, ‘O Ahmad, Allah made you a mercy to the worlds. Intercede for Adam’s descendants so that they are not burned in the Fire today.’ I shall reply, ‘Yes, I am the one for it.’ I shall go and take hold of the ring on the gate of Paradise. It will be asked, ‘Who is this?’ I shall answer, ‘I am Ahmad.’ The gate will be opened for me, and when I behold the Almighty—Blessed and Exalted is He—I shall fall down in prostration. I shall then be inspired to extol and praise the Lord—Glorious and Exalted is He—in a manner that no created being knows how to utter. I shall then be told, ‘Ask, and you shall be given; intercede, and your intercession shall be accepted.’ I shall say, ‘My Lord, let Adam’s descendants not be burned in the Fire today.’ He will say, ‘Go, and bring forth anyone in whose heart you find the weight of ⦗1241⦘ a dinar of faith.’
“They will then return to me and say, ‘Let Adam’s descendants not be burned in the Fire today.’ I shall go and take hold of the ring on the gate of Paradise. It will be asked, ‘Who is this?’ I shall answer, ‘Ahmad.’ The gate will be opened for me, and when I behold the Almighty—Blessed and Exalted is He—I shall fall down in prostration. I shall prostrate as I did the first time, and an equal prostration shall be made alongside me. I shall be inspired with the same praise and extolling of the Lord—Glorious and Exalted is He—as I was the first time. I shall then be told, ‘Raise your head. Ask, and you shall be given; intercede, and your intercession shall be accepted.’ I shall say, ‘My Lord, let Adam’s descendants not be burned in the Fire today.’ He will say, ‘Bring forth for him anyone who has a carat’s weight of faith in his heart.’
“They will then return to me, and I shall go and do as I did before. When I behold the Almighty—Glorious and Exalted is He—I shall fall down in prostration. I shall prostrate as I did the first time, and an equal prostration shall be made alongside me. I shall be inspired with similar praise and extolling. I shall then be told, ‘Ask, and you shall be given; intercede, and your intercession shall be accepted.’ I shall say, ‘My Lord, let Adam’s descendants not be burned in the Fire today.’ He will say, ‘Go, and bring forth anyone in whose heart you find a speck’s weight of faith.’ ⦗1242⦘ They will bring forth a multitude whose number none knows but Allah—Glorious and Exalted is He—yet most of them will remain.
“Adam will then be granted permission to intercede, and he will intercede for ten million. The angels and the prophets will then be granted permission, and they will intercede, until even a believer will intercede for more people than Rabīa and Mudar together.”
810 — Abū Ubayd Alī ibn al-Husayn ibn Harb al-Qādī also informed us, saying: Abū al-Ashath Ahmad ibn al-Miqdām narrated to us, saying: al-Mutamir ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, saying: I heard my father narrate from Qatāda, from Anas, from the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—who said: “The believers will come to Adam on the Day of Resurrection 00000” He then related the hadith at length, similarly to the hadith of al-Firyābī. This hadith has multiple routes of transmission.
