795 — Abū Jafar Muhammad ibn Sālih ibn Dharīh narrated to us: Hannād ibn al-Sarī narrated to us: Abū Muāwiya narrated to us, from Ishāq ibn Abd Allah ibn Abī Farwa, from Saīd ibn Abī Saīd, from Abū Hurayra, who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:

“I asked Allah, Mighty and Majestic, for intercession on behalf of my nation. He said, ‘You shall have seventy thousand who will enter Paradise without reckoning or punishment.’

“I said, ‘My Lord, grant me more.’

“He said, ‘For every thousand, you shall have seventy thousand more.’

“I said, ‘My Lord, grant me more.’

“He then made a scooping motion before Him, to His right, and to His left.

“Abū Bakr—may Allah be pleased with him—said, ‘That is enough for us, O Messenger of Allah.’

“Umar—may Allah be pleased with him—said, ‘O Abū Bakr, let the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—obtain still more for us, just as Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has granted more.’

“Abū Bakr said, ‘We are but one handful among Allah’s handfuls, Mighty and Majestic.’

“The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, ‘Abū Bakr has spoken the truth.’”
