775 — Abū Muhammad Yahyā ibn Muhammad ibn Sāid narrated to us: al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan al-Marwazī narrated to us: Ismāil ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us: Hishām al-Dastawāī narrated to us: Hammād narrated to us. He said: I asked Ibrāhīm about this verse:
“Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims.” [al-Hijr: 2]
He said, “I was told that the polytheists will say to those who entered the Fire, ‘How has what you used to worship availed you?’ Allah—Glorious and Exalted is He—will become angry on their behalf and say to the angels and prophets, ‘Intercede.’ They will intercede, and those people will emerge from the Fire. Iblīs will even crane his neck in the hope of emerging with them. At that point, those who disbelieved will wish that they had been Muslims.”
