753 — Abū Ja‘far Ahmad ibn Yahyā al-Hulwānī narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn al-Sabbāh al-Dūlābī narrated to us, saying: Sufyān ibn Uyayna narrated to us, from Amr ibn Dīnār, from Tāwūs, who heard Abū Hurayra say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Adam and Moses, peace be upon them both, argued their respective cases. Moses said, ‘O Adam, you are our father, yet you caused us to be expelled from Paradise.’ Adam replied, ‘O Moses, Allah, Glorious and Exalted, chose you for His speech and wrote the Torah for you with His Hand. Do you blame me for something Allah, Glorious and Exalted, had decreed for me forty years before He created me?’ He said, ‘Thus Adam prevailed over Moses in argument; thus Adam prevailed over Moses in argument.’”
