748 — Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Qutaybah ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, saying: Al-Layth ibn Saʿd narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn ʿAjlān, from Saʿīd al-Maqburī, from his father, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Salām, who said in the course of a lengthy hadith:

“Then He created Adam, peace be upon him. He then passed His two Hands over his back and brought forth into them all those of his progeny whom He would create until the Hour comes. ⦗1176⦘ He, Exalted and Majestic, then closed His Hands and said, ‘Choose, O Adam.’ Adam said, ‘I choose Your right Hand, my Lord—and both Your Hands are right Hands.’ He opened it, and behold, it contained his descendants who were among the people of Paradise. Adam asked, ‘Who are these, my Lord?’ He said, ‘They are those whom I have decreed to create from your progeny as people of Paradise until the Hour comes.’”

And he related the rest of the hadith.
